Squirrel Road Rehabilitation

Squirrel Road is a minor arterial (4 lane boulevard) and principal arterial (6 lane boulevard), being the main north-south connector to City Hall, the Chrysler World Headquarters and Oakland University. Due to the existing concrete pavement experiencing joint deterioration from alkali silica reaction (ASR), OHM Advisors was retained to assist the City of Auburn Hills in completing a life-cycle cost analysis of various options for the Squirrel Road corridor. The final recommendation was to rehabilitate with a thin concrete overlay. Our team also assisted the City in obtaining over $1 million in federal funding for the project. In order to meet the schedule and budget constraints, the project team developed an innovative traffic control plan, which not only allowed for expedited construction, but also resulted in the placement of a superior concrete overlay.
