OHM Advisors Projects Honored with Ohio Planning Awards
OHM Advisors is pleased to announce award recognition from the American Planning Association Ohio Chapter and Heritage Ohio for two significant planning and design projects illustrating the firm’s commitment to its mission of Advancing Communities.
On October 3, the insight2050 Corridor Concepts project was presented with the American Planning Association Ohio Chapter’s 2019 Best Comprehensive Plan, Large Jurisdiction at its annual conference in Cleveland. This award honors comprehensive plans of unusually high merit completed for an Ohio jurisdiction with a Census population of 100,000 or more.
Working as part of a national team of consultants, OHM Advisors served as the local planning lead for the vital insight2050 Corridor Concepts project initiated by the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) to prepare for growth of more than one million people in Central Ohio in the coming decades. The study used an extensive collaborative process to analyze land use, development, and existing transportation systems along five primary corridors in Central Ohio.
Using the study’s results, our team developed implementation strategies that offer MORPC strategic direction to balance and integrate new high-capacity public transit technology with future growth. Those strategies provide replicable criteria that can be applied to other corridors within the region for similar future studies.
On October 22, the City of Wooster and Main Street Wooster received the 2019 Heritage Ohio Best Downtown Placemaking Award for the Wooster Downtown Plan project. Heritage Ohio is the state’s official historic preservation and Main Street organization whose mission it is to foster economic development and sustainability through preservation of historic buildings, revitalization of downtowns and neighborhood commercial districts, and promotion of cultural tourism. Its annual award for Best Downtown Placemaking recognizes outstanding plan designs embodying the spirit of its mission.
The project fulfilled multiple important goals for the City, charting a course for the future of its downtown. It created a dynamic downtown central park to promote gathering and function as the heart of the community; identified redevelopment opportunities for the downtown area to enhance its economic competitiveness; and identified public projects to enhance the quality of life for area residents.
