Historic Tennessee Courthouse Wins Prestigious ACEC Engineering Excellence Award
Detailed and innovative approach to courthouse facilities assessment recognized with honors
On November 6th at the 2024 ACEC Tennessee Engineering Excellence Award Gala, the American Council of Engineering Companies recognized the Giles County Courthouse Condition Assessment project with a Grand Award in the Small Survey Category.
This project exemplifies how a detailed approach to a facilities assessment helped Giles County preserve its historic courthouse—and details of its construction—for years to come. OHM Advisors applied a variety of surveying techniques and innovative technologies to overcome the challenges of gathering data without existing floorplans or records of architectural features and an abundance of hard-to-access areas. The approach effectively overcame these complexities and produced an accurate and rich visual dataset to inform design decisions and solutions.
OHM Advisors’ collaborative approach and innovative use of survey and mapping technology helped Giles County effectively tackle long-overdue upgrades to our historic courthouse. The outcomes are a critical component to meeting our ultimate vision of a rehabilitated structure while providing us with a detailed database that will benefit us years into the future.
