Iconic Holmes County structure recognized as one of the nation’s top engineering achievements
The Spellacy Bridge over the Mohican River in Holmes County, OH, has been recognized as one of the nation’s top engineering achievements, earning the 2024 Engineering News-Record (ENR) Best of the Best Award in the Small Project category. This national honor celebrates the extraordinary collaboration and ingenuity behind this vital infrastructure project, which has become a standout example of engineering excellence.
Led by OHMer Craig Schripsema, our team contributed to the value engineering and construction phases of this remarkable project. Working closely with the Holmes County Engineering Office, ODOT District 11 LPA Team, and Kokosing Construction, Craig ensured the project’s success by fostering collaboration and delivering innovative solutions that enhanced the overall design and construction.
While the bridge's design is attributed to Palmer Engineering and Smolen Engineering, the project’s recognition as an ENR Best of the Best winner highlights the collective effort of all partners involved. This award adds to a growing list of accolades for the innovative Spellacy Bridge, including:
- ABCD Ohio Chapter 2024 Outstanding New Medium Span Bridge Award
- ASHE Cuyahoga Valley Section 2024 Outstanding Highway Project Award - Over $5 Million
