The Dublin City School District’s newest middle school in Jerome Village is connected to the new Abraham Depp Elementary School on a shared campus—all designed by OHM Advisors as part of a series of successful projects produced by our K-12 design team working with the District for over 20 years. The new two-story, 142,000-sf building accommodates 960 students and was designed to support an evolving curriculum and learning modalities with an emphasis on an agile learning environment, flexibility, adaptability and security.
The design follows the concept of transparent, connected learning “neighborhoods” and project-based learning with three grade-level pods arranged around a variety of shared learning common areas. Classrooms have glass garage doors opening out to the shared common area and are adjacent to small group rooms for collaboration. The “arts district” includes traditional art rooms and an additional three makerspace classrooms arranged around a shared, open flex space connecting the various activities.
The building also includes a cafeteria with a stage and direct access to the gymnasium and music wing as well as three enclosed outdoor dining and learning areas designed as a result of feedback from student interviews. The outdoor athletic facilities include a grass football stadium with an eight-lane track, baseball field, softball field, five tennis courts, practice fields and a concession/storage building. Careful attention was given to separate parent and bus drop-off zones to maintain safe and secure access into the building.
