Award-Winning Design Reinvigorates a Downtown for Generations to Come
OHM Advisors partnered with the City of Fenton, Michigan as it undertook a historic downtown project to upgrade below-ground infrastructure and enhance ease and quality of life above-ground. Through masterful coordination of complex project schedules warranted by various funding sources, our team delivered utility renovations, complete reconstruction of existing roadways and beautified streetscapes. We addressed concerns about pedestrian safety, walkability, aging infrastructure, road conditions and traffic control—all identified through an extensive public engagement initiative—and replaced municipal water mains, rehabilitated existing sewer systems, incorporated green infrastructure, enabled safety and traffic network enhancements, and improved parking and overall accessibility.
Working closely with city representatives, stakeholders, and both the residential and business community, we developed an award-winning vision and plan that transforms the downtown into a thriving, American with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant, state-of-the-art destination. A modernized, pedestrian-friendly corridor complete with wider sidewalks, new gutters and extended curbs improves access and creates connectivity. Utility enhancements have allowed for expanded business opportunities and economic development, and permeable brick pavers address surface runoff and minimize its effects on the environment. The personalized result for the City of Fenton is a pedestrian and environmentally-friendly location to live, work and play.
